Reading

Reading①:

Learning a New Language

Learning a new language can be difficult, but it can also be very rewarding. People learn languages for many different reasons. Some people want to travel, while others need a new language for work or school.

One good way to learn a language is to practice a little every day. For example, learners can read short articles, listen to podcasts, or talk with other people. Studying for a long time once a week is usually less effective than studying for a short time every day.

Making mistakes is also an important part of learning. When learners make mistakes, they can understand what they need to improve. For this reason, learners should not be afraid of making mistakes.

Questions

1. Why do some people learn a new language?

A. To become famous
B. To travel or work
C. To avoid studying
D. To make new food

2. What does the passage recommend?

A. Studying once a month
B. Studying only at school
C. Practicing every day
D. Avoiding conversations

3. What can learners do to practice?

A. Only watch movies
B. Read articles or listen to podcasts
C. Stop making mistakes
D. Travel every week

4. What does the passage say about mistakes?

A. They should always be avoided
B. They are not important
C. They can help learners improve
D. They make learning impossible

5. What is the main idea of the passage?

A. Learning languages is impossible
B. Traveling is the best way to learn
C. Regular practice and mistakes can help language learning
D. Schools are necessary for language learning

The Changing Way We Work

The way people work has changed significantly in recent years. In the past, many employees worked in offices from Monday to Friday. Today, however, more companies allow their employees to work from home, either every day or several days a week.

Working from home has several advantages. Employees do not need to spend time commuting, and they may have more flexibility in organizing their daily schedules. Some people also find that they can concentrate better in a quiet home environment.

However, remote work also has disadvantages. Some employees may feel isolated because they have fewer opportunities to communicate with their colleagues. It can also be difficult for workers to separate their professional and personal lives when both take place in the same location.

Because of these advantages and disadvantages, some companies have introduced a hybrid working system. Under this system, employees work at home on some days and in the office on others.

Questions

1. How did many people traditionally work?

D. They worked only at night.

2. What is one advantage of working from home?

A. Employees have more meetings.
B. Employees have more colleagues.
C. Employees work longer hours.
D. Employees do not need to commute.

3. Why might some people feel isolated when working remotely?

A. They have fewer opportunities to communicate with colleagues.
B. They have too much free time.
C. They work in large offices.
D. They travel too often.

4. What is one problem with working from home?

A. It can be difficult to separate work and personal life.
B. Employees cannot use computers.
C. Employees must commute every day.
D. Employees have no flexibility.

5. What is a hybrid working system?

A. Working only at night.
B. Working without colleagues.
C. Working both at home and in the office.
D. Working in different countries.

6. What is the main purpose of the passage?

A. To explain why offices should disappear.
B. To discuss the advantages and disadvantages of remote work.

Urban Green Spaces

As cities continue to grow, the importance of urban green spaces has received increasing attention. Parks, gardens, and other forms of vegetation can provide residents with places to relax and exercise, while also contributing to the environmental quality of urban areas.

One important benefit of green spaces is their potential effect on people’s physical and mental health. Regular access to parks may encourage people to walk or participate in outdoor activities. In addition, natural environments can provide a temporary escape from the noise and pressure associated with city life.

Green spaces can also influence the urban environment itself. Trees can provide shade during hot weather and may help reduce local temperatures. Vegetation can also absorb some rainwater, which may reduce the pressure placed on drainage systems during heavy rainfall.

However, creating and maintaining green spaces can be expensive, particularly in densely populated areas where land is limited. City governments must therefore consider how available land should be used. Some researchers argue that even small green areas can provide benefits if they are carefully designed and easily accessible to local residents.

The effectiveness of an urban green space may depend not only on its size but also on its location, design, and accessibility. A large park that is difficult to reach may be less useful to residents than a smaller park located within walking distance of a residential area.

Reading

Listening:

  • Writing

Listening
Speaking
Writing

「IELTS Overall 5.5
